Two Doubles Teams Remain Alive At ITA's

Release: 10/20/2012 CARY, North Carolina - Two doubles teams from UNCW remain alive heading into the final day of the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Men's Tennis Championships at the Cary Tennis Park. In action Saturday, sophomore Sam Williams became UNCW's first player to reach the quarterfinals in the main singles draw before dropping a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Chris Mengel of Duke. In doubles, the teams of Kosta Blank-Chris Cooprider and Sam Williams-Rafael Aita won two matches apiece. Blank and Cooprider downed Daniel Krehman and Adam Lee of Wake Forest, 8-3, and cruised past South Carolina State's Tomas Binzon and Anton Protzenko, 8-1. Williams and Aita trimmed Jiimmy Dougherty and Randy Phillips of UNC Greensboro, 8-4, and slipped past Duke's Michael Redicki and Jason Tahir, 9-8 (4). Pedro Mol and Zach Hublitz won their first match early Saturday, defeating East Carolina's Jordan Vliegen and Nicholas Soriano, 9-7, but lost to UNC Chapel Hill's Esben Hess and Nelson Vick, 8-5. Overall, the Seahawks went 0-1 in singles and 5-1 in doubles on the day. |
