Cameron, Sekely Advance To Round of 32

Release: 10/19/2012 CARY, North Carolina - Juniors Kelly Cameron and Angie Sekely reached the round of 32 in singles to highlight the second day of action for the UNCW women's tennis team at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships at Cary Tennis Park. The Seahawks went 2-2 in singles on the day, with Cameron and Sekely winning for Coach Evan Clark's club. Cameron scooted past Wake Forest's Andrea Retolaza, 6-4, 6-3, and Sekely rallied past UNC Greensboro's Diana Yurtkuran, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (0). "I'm extremely proud of Kelly and Angie's performance today," said Clark. "I'm especially pleased with the way they competed throughout their matches. They both face tough competition tomorrow, but I know they are ready for the challenge." In other singles matches, South Carolina's Katerina Popova cruised past UNCW's Olga Blank, 6-0, 6-1, and UNC Chapel Hill's Tessa Lyons defeated Alyssa Ritchie, 7-6 (5), 6-3. In doubles action, two Seahawk teams fell by the wayside as the Seahawks went 1-3 on Friday. Miller Hales and Cameron defeated N.C. State's Elisha Hande and Chloe Smith, 8-3, before losing to UNC Chapel Hill's Zoe De Bruycker and Laura Slater, 8-4. Also, Blank and Sekely dropped a narrow 8-6 decision to South Carolina's Alex Martin and Ximena Siles and East Carolina's Melis Tanik and Nicole LaDuca slipped past Hamilton Lovett and Christina Riley, 9-7. |
