WILMINGTON,
North Carolina - The UNCW women's basketball team announced
its 2012-13 regular season schedule on Wednesday, a challenging 29-game slate
that includes 13 home game and 16 road contests.
First-year Head Coach Adell Harris and her squad will
face a difficult schedule after 12 of their opponents advanced to postseason
play last season and eight of them - Delaware, James Madison, Liberty, Northern
Kentucky, Richmond, Tulane, Wake Forest and West Virginia - recorded 20 or more
victories.
The Seahawks
will play 11 non-league games and 18 Colonial Athletic Association contests,
with home-and-home matchups against eight of the 10 league foes. UNCW will only
face defending regular season and tournament champion Delaware (road) and
Georgia State (home) once during the regular campaign.
UNCW begins
preparations for the regular season with an exhibition contest against UNC
Pembroke on Nov. 3 before opening the campaign Nov. 9 at 2012 NCAA Tournament
participant West Virginia.
After wrapping up non-conference play against North
Carolina A&T on Jan. 3, UNCW opens the league portion
of its schedule Jan. 6 with a visit from Postseason WNIT finalist James Madison.
The Seahawks make their first league road trip just two days
later as they pay a visit to William & Mary Jan. 8. Back-to-back home contests against Drexel
(Jan. 13) and Old Dominion (Jan. 17) follow the Seahawks' visit to Williamsburg
before the Seahawks return to the road for contests at Delaware (Jan. 24) and
Towson (Jan. 27).
A visit from William & Mary (Jan. 31) brings January
to a close and starts a hectic 11-day stretch that will see the Seahawks in
action five times in that span that features games at Old Dominion (Feb. 3), at
home versus Hofstra (Feb. 5) and back on the road at James Madison (Feb. 7) and
Northeastern (Feb. 10).
February continues with a Valentine's Day visit from
George Mason (Feb. 14) and home matchup with Georgia State (Feb. 17). The
Seahawks then make their first visit to Philadelphia since the 2009-10 season
for a meeting with Drexel (Feb. 21) before closing out the month with a home
date against Northeastern (Feb. 24) and a road contest at George Mason (Feb.
28).
UNCW embarks on its final road trip of the season when it
visits Hofstra for a Sunday matinee on March 2. The regular season draws to a
close March 6 with a home matchup against Towson.
The 2013 CAA Women's Basketball Championship will once
again take place at the Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md., on March
14-17.
