Release: 07/06/2012 (This is the second in a series of capsules highlighting the successful 2011-12 sports season at UNCW) Eleven proved to be a lucky number, indeed, for the men's swimming and diving team, which maintained a dynasty in the CAA with its 11th straight conference championship in 2011-12. Coach Dave Allen's team set 11 school records and three conference marks as the Seahawks cruised at George Mason's McKay Aquatic Center in Fairfax, Va. Allen, in his 35th season with the program, was named CAA Men's Swimming Coach-of-the-Year for the fifth year in a row and ninth time overall. Four swimmers -Alex Aguilar, Stephen Conrad, C.J. Fiala and Joe Gallene - capped off the year by competing in the U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb., with Conrad winning his heat in the 100 Butterfly. |
