WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW sophomore Olga Blank has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Week after convincing victories over three opponents last week.
The Kfar Sava, Israel, netter joins senior Christina Lee on the CAA's honors list this spring. Lee was named PofW for the week of Feb. 28.
Blank helped the Seahawks hike their record to 9-5 with straight-set victories at No. 2 singles over opponents from Cornell, UNC Charlotte and Appalachian State. She downed Cornell's Christine Ordway, 6-3, 6-2, rolled over UNCC's Andrea Rivera, 6-3, 6-1, and throttled ASU's Jessica Thaggard.
Overall, Blank is 4-4 in singles and 5-3 in doubles this spring.
"I'm very excited that Olga has been recognized for her successful week in singles," said Jenny Garrity, UNCW's 12th-year coach. "Her quick wins helped us keep momentum in those matches as our opponents were attempting to get back in the matches and her matches really shut the door on those runs from the other teams.
"Olga has a big game and her growing confidence has allowed her to play big points in key moments of her matches. I know she is looking forward to the upcoming week of three big matches to continue what she's been working on."
The Seahawks entertain Coastal Carolina on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. before embarking on a five-match road swing.
