WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The sophomore pair of Kelly Cameron and Angie Sekely of UNCW has been recognized by the Colonial Athletic Association as the Women's Tennis Doubles Team-of-the-Week.
The duo has played a key role in a 6-4 start for the Seahawks and Coach Jenny Garrity.
Cameron (Hilton Head Island, S.C.) and Sekely (Mississauga, Ontario) defeated Temple's Yana Mavrina and Paola Calderon, 8-2, at the No. 1 doubles position in the Seahawks' 4-1 victory over the Owls last week. Cameron and Sekely improved their record to 4-3 on the season.
"This is a well-deserved award for Angie and Kelly," said Garrity, UNCW's veteran coach. "I'm really happy for them to be recognized in this way. They are a new doubles combination this spring and not only that, we have put them in the top spot against the toughest schedule we've ever had. They have handled it with courage and enthusiasm.
"They are playing really well together and that's due mainly to their communication, their movement and their support of each other. They have set the tone early in a lot of our matches, and I look forward to seeing them compete during a tough stretch of CAA matches over the next two weeks."
The Seahawks open a three-match homestand early Thursday when in-state rival Wake Forest visits for an 11 a.m. match.
