Rountree, a prominent civic leader and attorney, was an outstanding basketball player at the University of Arizona and graduated with honors from the UA College of Law. He then returned to Wilmington to join his father's law practice, and became a tireless supporter of the UNCW athletic program.
He played a key role in the development of the Seahawk Club during its early years and served as president five times. In addition, Rountree was a member of the UNCW Board of Trustees from 1989-93, and later served on the UNCW Board of Visitors as well.
Rountree has dedicated his life to assisting young student-athletes with his time and resources. Those contributions were recognized in May of 2009 when he was inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame.
He established an endowed scholarship at UNCW and has been a key benefactor for many years. In 1989, he made a significant contribution that transformed the men's basketball locker room complex into one of the finest facilities in the country.
