NEWARK, Del.
- Four pool records
fell as UNC Wilmington jumped out to leads in all six dual meets on Friday in
swimming and diving action against Colonial Athletic Association foes Delaware, George Mason and Towson at the Rawstrom Natatorium.
The Seahawk women built leads over
host Delaware (54.5-36.5), George Mason
(69-22) and defending CAA champion Towson
(48.5-42.5). The men, meanwhile, also built leads over the Blue Hens (62-39),
the Patriots (63-28) and Towson
(75-16).
UNCW's men and women combined to break
pool records in four events. Sophomore Mattie Riley set the women's 50
Freestyle mark with a first-place time of 23.96. Fellow sophomore Anna Munger
finished second in the event, posting a tie of 24.32.
The other three marks to fall on the
opening day were the men's 200 Freestyle relay and both the men and women's 400
Medley relays.
The 200 Freestyle relay team of
sophomore Alex Aguilar, junior Bobby Guntoro, freshman Michael Williams and
senior Rob Anderson fashioned a time of 1:23.79, topping the previous mark of
1:24.15, set by Drexel in 1992.
In the 400 Relays, the women's team
of sophomore Hilary Fritz, freshman Carly Tanner, senior Caitlin Kirsteier and Munger
swam a venue-record time of 3:51.30, narrowly besting New Hampshire's record of 3:52.31, set in
1997. On the men's side, Guntoro, Anderson, junior Tucker Waldron and Aguilar
won the event with a record-time of 3:25.21. The previous record of 3:27.16 was
set in 1992 by Drexel.

pod meet concludes on Saturday with a 9 a.m. start at the Rawstrom Natatorium
