BOSTON - Senior Jessica Thachuk posted her team-leading sixth triple-double of the season to lead Northeastern to a 3-1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-23) victory over UNC Wilmington in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Friday evening at Solomon Court.
The Huskies improved to 13-11 on the season and 6-5 in league play as they extended their winning streak against UNCW to nine matches. The Seahawks, meanwhile, dropped to 13-15 and 3-8 under first-year Head Coach Amy Bambenek.
"Despite two injuries in the first two games, I thought our team was resilient and played hard throughout the entire match," Bambenek said. "We must continue that fight Sunday when we take on a talented Hofstra team."
Thachuk dished out a match-best 28 assists and added 10 kills and 10 digs to lead Northeastern while junior Britney Brown posted a double-double with a match-high 14 kills and 15 assists.
Junior outside hitter Caitlin Tittl and junior middle hitter Jillian Robinson chipped in nine kills each as the Huskies combined to post a .172 hitting percentage, highlighted by Robinson's .562 attack clip as she did not record an error in 16 total attempts.
Senior libero Leah Neubeck joined Thachuk and Brown in double-digit digs as she recorded a match-best 15 digs.
Senior outside hitter Lindsey Strucko recorded a team-high 12th double-double with 13 kills and 11 digs for UNCW. Sophomore middle hitter Kimberly Friedl posted a career-high 11 kills on a .500 hitting percentage as she recorded just two errors in 18 total attempts.
Strucko was the only Seahawk player to post double-figure digs as senior libero Ashlyn Morris chipped in nine digs and junior middle hitter Rachael Caricato added six.
Freshman setter Natalie LaHaie led UNCW with 18 assists while sophomore setter Kelsey Bendig chipped in nine assists.
UNCW returns to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Hofstra. Northeastern is back on the court Saturday with a 7 p.m. match against Georgia State.
