WILMINGTON, N.C. - UNC Wilmington
seniors Rob Anderson and Caitlin Kirsteier were named Colonial Athletic
Association swimmers-of-the-week after helping the Seahawks to non-conference
wins over Emory and Houston last weekend at the Seahawk Natatorium.
Anderson is the third Seahawk to earn the honor, joining junior Bobby Guntoro and sophomore Gavin Spake. Senior Caitlin Kirsteier, meanwhile, has
earned the award for the last three weeks running. This week though, she shared
the award with William & Mary's Katie Radloff.
In UNCW's win over Emory, Anderson turned in a performance that saw him
win a pair of individual events and swim a leg of a winning relay. He claimed first-place
in both the 50 Freestyle (21.37) and 100 Breaststroke (57.51). In the relays,
he opened the meet swimming on the winning 200 Medley Relay and capped the meet
on the 400 Free Relay that fashioned a top time of 3:08.95.
Kirsteier continued
her record-breaking season, topping her own venue-record time in the 100 Butterfly
and swimming on a pair of pool-record setting relays. In the 100 Butterfly, she
swam 55.09 and breaking her own record set earlier in October of 55.61 against
Old Dominion. Kirsteier helped the 200 Medley Relay break the record for the
second time in as many weeks with a time of 1:44.79 and later anchored the 400
Freestyle Relay in a Natatorium record of 3:28.25.
Kirsteier's time in
the 100 Butterfly ranks her ninth nationally entering this weekend.
The Seahawks return
to conference action on Nov. 6-7, when they visit Newark, Del., for a quad meet
with George Mason, Towson and host Delaware.
