HARRISONBURG, Va. - Freshman outside hitter Danielle Erb recorded a match-high 16 kills to lead James Madison to a 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-12) victory over UNC Wilmington in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Saturday at the JMU Convocation Center.
The Dukes improved to 11-16 overall and 4-7 in CAA play while the Seahawks slipped to 13-14 on the season and 3-7 in conference action under first-year Head Coach Amy Bambenek.
Sophomore middle blocker Kelly Turner chipped in 14 kills and sophomore outside hitter Holly Wall pitched in 13 to join Erb in double-figures as the trio recorded 43 of the Dukes' 55 kills in the match. Wall and Erb highlighted the JMU attack as Wall posted a .545 hitting percentage and Erb turned in a .393 attack clip as the Dukes posted a .301 hitting percentage
Freshman setter Megan Wiechmann benefitted from the Dukes attack as she dished out a match-best 44 assists.
Freshman libero Natalie Abel notched a match-high 21 digs while Erb added 18 to record the double-double. Junior outside hitter Lindsay Callahan highlighted the team's defensive efforts at the net as she posted a match-best six total blocks.
Junior outside hitter Lindsey Strucko led the UNCW effort as she posted her team-leading 11th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs. Junior outside hitter Kelli Clear pitched in eight kills and seven digs while sophomore middle hitters Kimberly Friedl and Emily Mohrman added seven kills each.
Strucko was the only UNCW player to reach double figures in digs as senior libero Ashlyn Morris added nine. Sophomore setter Kelsey Bendig dished out 29 assists.
Both teams return to action Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in league action. UNCW travels to Northeastern while JMU is at VCU.
