WAYZATA, Minn. - Senior Derek Wallace (71-76-69=216) closed out the final round with a 3-under-par score of 69 to finish in a tie for seventh overall while UNC Wilmington also placed seventh at the Gopher Invitational.

Southern Methodist (285-290-280=855) won the 12-team event by 10 strokes over second-place Arkansas (296-281-288=865). SMU's Kelly Kraft (67-70-64=201) overcame a 1-stroke deficit after two rounds to win medalist honors.

"Derek played like a senior and I'm excited for him to see him rebound and open his season with a strong showing," said Head Coach Matt Clark. "This tournament will go a long ways in helping us progress towards our goals the rest of the season."

Wallace, who opened the tournament with a 71 in the first round and fought through a second round 76, posted his sixth career top-10 finish and third in his last four tournaments dating back to last spring. He opened the front nine at 1-over, but rattled for four birdies on the back nine to finish 4-under and 3-under for the round.

Junior Ryan Sullivan (72-74-76=222) narrowly missed a top-20 finish after a final round 76 dropped him into a tie for 21st overall. Sullivan had opened the final round in a tie for 16th overall before recording four bogeys on the back nine.

Fellow junior Josh Brock (78-75-73=226) finished tied for 38th while sophomore Taylor Zimmerman (73-74-81=228) and Stefan Brewer (71-76-81=228) were tied for 48th.

The Seahawks visit Farmingdale, N.Y., on Friday for The McLaughin tournament hosted by St. John's. The tournament will be held at Bethpage State Park, home of the 2009 US Open, on the Red Course.
