Few individuals have been more responsible for the early metamorphosis of the UNC Wilmington athletic program than local physician and philanthropist Dr. William P. Nixon, Jr.
Dr. Nixon played baseball collegiately at Atlantic Christian College. After completing his medical degree at Duke University, he became the founder and president of the Southeastern Dialysis Center in Wilmington. Dr. Nixon's contributions to the program have been numerous. He served as president of the Seahawk Club in 1985 and has held various positions in the organization. The program's base of operations, the William P. Nixon, Jr., Athletic Annex, is named in his honor. |
