WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW will open its postseason run on Wednesday when it plays James Madison at 3:30 p.m. as the Colonial Athletic Association baseball championship returns to Brooks Field following a two-year absence.

The Seahawks finished third and will host the Dukes, who punched their tournament ticket with a win at Delaware on the final day of the season. The two teams opened conference play earlier this season and split a pair of games in Harrisonburg, Va.

Taking the mound for UNCW will is two-time Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher-of-the-Year, Mat Batts. Batts was named the top pitcher in the circuit after posting a 6-3 record and a 2.30 earned run average. The lefthander has led the league in strikeouts in each of the past three seasons. Batts is second on the NCAA’s active career leaders with 334 strikeouts.

Joining Batts, who was a first-team All-CAA pitcher for the second consecutive season, on the All-CAA teams were junior designated hitter Luke Dunlap (second-team), senior infielder Ryan LaGrange (third-team) and freshman outfielder Casey Golden (all-rookie). LaGrange was also named to the All-Academic team.

 UNCW is making its 29th appearance in the CAA tournament and is the only school to compete in every baseball tournament. Qualifying for the postseason began in 2001. The Seahawks have won the tournament on three occasions (2004, 2006, 2012) and played in the finals on two other occasions (2009, 2010).
