|Adams Takes Second At CAA Championship|
SOUTHPORT, North Carolina - Senior Lori Beth Adams carded a six-over-par 78 to finish in a tie for second and lead UNCW in the final round of the 2014 Colonial Athletic Association Women’s Golf Championship Sunday at the St. James Plantation Reserve Club.
Playing under wet and windy conditions, Adams posted her six-over-par result to finish with a 36-hole total of 10-over-par (76-78=154) in the rain-shortened event. A native of Burlington, N.C., Adams earned All-Tournament Team accolades for the third time in her career as she recorded her third straight top five finish in the championship.
Led by Adams, UNCW posted a team total of 324 to claim fourth with a two-round result of 634 (310-324), one shot back of Delaware (311-322=633) and William & Mary (315-318=633), who finished tied for second. Sophomores Meghan Theiss (78-80=158/T-7th) and Annette Lyche (81-77=158/T-7th) both finished part of a four-way tie for eighth while senior Laverry Kumar (75-89=164/T-20th) and Megan Burnham (81-92=173/39th) completed UNCW’s entry.
First-round leader College of Charleston captured the tournament title with a tournament total of 618 (302-316) to post a 15-shot victory over the field. Delaware (311-322=633) and William & Mary (315-318=633) finished tied for second while Seahawks took fourth (310-324=635) and defending champion James Madison (324-317=641) claimed fifth.
College of Charleston freshman Laura Fuenfstueck took home individual medalist honors, posting a six-shot victory with a tournament scorecard of four-over-par 148 (72-76). Adams and College of Charleston’s Julia Neumann (79-75=154) were second, Delaware’s Amanda Terzian (77-78=155) claimed fourth and three players finished tied for fifth.
