|Five-Run Fourth Trips Seahawks In Loss|
GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Big inning baseball sank the Seahawks as East Carolina overcame an early deficit with five runs in the fourth inning to knock off visiting UNCW, 8-5, on Wednesday at Clark-LeClair Stadium.
The Pirates ran their record to 22-15 with the win and also halted a brief three-game losing skid in the series. The Seahawks, meanwhile, extended their losing streak to third and fell to 17-19.
Lefthanded reliever Reid Love (3-3) evened his record with the win after allowing one run on two hits over 7.2 innings. He walked three and struck out three. Drew Reynolds retired the final batter of the ninth to earn his fifth save.
Dylan Brown led the Pirates from the top of the lineup with three hits while Zach Houchins and Charlie Yorgen each added two hits apiece.
Up next: The Seahawks host Towson in a three-game Colonial Athletic Association series beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
How it happened: East Carolina overcame an early 4-0 deficit in the fourth by sending nine batters to the plate in five-run outburst that gave them the lead. Brown highlighted the frame with a two-run double to center off Holden. Reynolds and Yorgen added RBI singles.
Inside the box score: East Carolina only scored in two innings, but ECU landed its leadoff hitter on base in both innings … ECU out hit the Seahawks with two out, .333 (4-12) to .222 (2-9) … Reid Love retired 23 of the 26 batters he faced during his stint.
Notes: LaGrange made his first start at shortstop since the 2011 season when he made three starts … Foster dropped his ERA to a staff-low 2.43 ERA ,he’s not allowed a run over his last 12.2 innings … The Seahawk bullpen saw it’s ERA balloon to 5.30 this season.
