WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team continues a seven-game road swing Wednesday as it heads to state foe UNCG for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the UNCG Softball Stadium.

UNCW (17-20) returns to the road after opening its seven-game road trip with three games at defending champion Hofstra last weekend. Senior Brittany Gamby continues to lead the team with a .304 batting average while freshman Nella Chamblee remains second on the team with a .302 batting average and is tied with senior Casey Shue for the team lead with 21 RBI. Junior Casey Rowland and freshman Peyton Jordan continue to serve as the 1-2 punch for Head Coach Kristy Norton in the circle, combining to post a 2.93 ERA and 195 strikeouts in 236.1 innings pitched.

UNCG (15-21) heads into Wednesday’s twinbill eying a return to the win column after falling in all three games of a league series at Furman over the weekend. Katelyn Bedwell leads the Spartans lineup with 47 hits and a .420 batting average while Nicole Thomas has recorded a team-high 38 RBI on the strength of nine home runs. In the circle, Head Coach Janelle Breneman has continued to rely upon a trio of pitchers as Thomas, Raeanne Hanks and Lacey Leary have combined to post a 4.48 ERA and 144 strikeouts in 233.0 innings pitched.

Wednesday’s doubleheader serves as the second meeting this season between UNCW and UNCG as the two programs split a pair of games in the UNCW Beach Bash at Boseman Field during tournament play. The Spartans hold a 35-15-1 lead in the all-time series and had won eight straight over the Seahawks until UNCW posted a 5-2 victory over UNCG during the Beach Bash.

UNCW returns to action April 16 as it travels to Raleigh for a 3 p.m. doubleheader versus NC State.
