WILMINGTON, North Carolina - The UNCW women’s basketball team completes a two-game homestand Sunday when it welcomes Drexel to Trask Coliseum for a 1 p.m. matinee.

Sunday’s game will serve as the program’s “Play 4Kay” contest, with the squad wearing pink uniforms and other pink apparel in support of the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s program designed to raise awareness for breast cancer research.

The Seahawks are encouraging all fans to wear pink to the game and the UNCW ticket office will offer a $2 ticket to anyone who is wearing pink. Fans who show up to the game without pink apparel will be able to purchase pink UNCW t-shirts for $10, with proceeds going to support the Wilmington chapter of the Pretty In Pink Foundation.

The team will also be conducting a silent auction/raffle for a pair of pink UNCW jerseys that will be given away during the contest. Bidding for the silent auction starts at $30 while raffle tickets are available for $5 apiece or three for $10. Proceeds from the jersey sales will benefit the “Play 4Kay” initiative.

The Seahawks (3-20; 2-7 CAA) enter their matchup with the Dragons looking to halt a four-game losing skid after suffering a 70-50 setback to defending league champion Delaware Friday night. Freshman Brie Mobley scored 16 points and junior Kelva Atkins added 15 to lead a Seahawks lineup that shot a season-high 45.8 percent from the floor, but Delaware used a 30-8 run through a majority of the second half to pull away from the Seahawks and post the 20-point victory.

Like UNCW, Drexel (10-11; 5-3 CAA) eyes a return to the win column after suffering a 71-65 setback at league newcomer College of Charleston on Friday. Sophomore Rachel Pearson leads a balanced Dragons lineup that features five players averaging more than seven points per contest with a 10.8 scoring average. Senior Fiona Flanagan highlights Drexel’s rebounding efforts while sophomore Meghan Creighton is third in the league in assists (4.1) as she leads a Dragons offense that ranks first on the circuit in assists per game (16.0).

Sunday’s contest marks the 21th meeting between the two programs, all of which have occurred since Drexel joined the CAA prior to the start of the 2001-02 season. The Dragons hold an 12-8 edge in the series and have won each of the last three meetings between the programs, including a sweep of the season series last season that saw them post 64-51 triumph at Trask Coliseum in January before recording a 59-47 victory at home in February.

After Sunday’s matchup with the Dragons, UNCW returns to action Feb. 13 as it travels to Harrisonburg, Va., for a 7 p.m. contest against the league-leading Dukes at the JMU Convocation Center.
