WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW freshman outside hitter Nicole Lott was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Rookie-of-the-Week for the second week in a row, it was announced on Monday.

Lott became the season’s second repeat winner of the award as she averaged 2.53 kills and 2.77 digs per set in leading the Seahawks to a 3-1 record last week. The West Chester, Pa., product also fashioned a .337 hitting percentage in those matches to pace the UNCW attack to a .236 attack clip for the week.

“It’s an honor for Nicole to receive this award for the second week in a row and it’s a testament to the hard work she puts into every practice opportunity,” said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. “She is gaining confidence with every match and she continues to impress me with her athletic ability and all-around skill level.”

Lott began the week by tallying a season-high 12 digs in a five-set defeat at Campbell before earning MVP honors at the Winthrop Invitational over the weekend by averaging 3.30 kills and 2.40 digs per set in leading the Seahawks to their second tournament title of the season.

Lott open the tournament by notching a season-high 13 kills in a sweep of The Citadel and followed that effort with an 11-spike performance against Winthrop that saw her finish the match without a single attack error. She closed out the tournament with another error-free outing; recording nine kills in a sweep of Bethune-Cookman.

Off to its best start since the 1988 season, UNCW (11-3) returns to action Friday as it opens conference play with a 7 p.m. match at Hofstra.
