WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Fresh off her MVP performance in the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational, UNCW sophomore forward Maddie McCormick was named the Colonial Athletic Association's Player-of-the-Week on Monday.
“I am happy for Maddie,” said UNCW Head Coach Paul Cairney. “She has worked very hard during this first part of the season. She has a great instinct close to goal and has shown her ability to score in different ways. As a team sport, I am sure Maddie shares this award with her teammates. Forwards cannot score without support from other players.”
A native of Newark, Del., garnered MVP honors in the UNCW Courtyard Marriott Wilmington Invitational by tallying seven points (3 G, 1 A) to help UNCW capture the tournament title with 4-2 victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Longwood. McCormick opened the tournament by scoring her second goal of the season in the victory against the Islanders and finished the weekend with five points on two goals, including the game-winning strike, and an assist in the two-goal win versus the Lancers.
The UNCW women’s soccer team (3-5-0) returns to action Thursday as it hosts Coastal Carolina in a 7 p.m. contest at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
