WILMINGTON, North Carolina – East Carolina successfully defended its women’s championship and Campbell claimed the men’s title in the 24th Seahawk Invitational Cross Country race late Friday on the recreational fields at UNCW.

The Pirates won the three-team women’s race with 27 points, defeating Campbell (50) and host UNCW (53). The Camels, meanwhile, easily claimed the men’s portion with 22 points in front of ECU (49) and UNCW (56).

Individually, ECU’s Brooke Kott finished ahead of CU’s Ashley Mathews and Samantha Robbins to win the women’s 5K. Kott clocked an 18:18 time, comfortably ahead of Mathews at 18:33. UNCW junior Ashley Wybersky placed fourth with a time of 18:41.

In the men’s 5K, CU’s Morgan Timiney edged teammate Chris Schulist for individual honors. Timiney finished with a time of 15:29, with Schulist close behind at 15:30. UNCW senior John Riemer took fifth place at 15:58.

UNC Pembroke swept both races in the Division 2-3 competition.
