WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW sophomore forward Colin Bonner was named Colonial Athletic Association men’s soccer Player-of-the-Week after helping the Seahawks to a 2-0 weekend and the Wolstein Classic title.

Bonner, who was an honorable mention preseason All-CAA pick by the league’s coaches, notched a pair of goals, including the game-winner in overtime, against host Ohio State in the season opener for both sides. He gave the Seahawks the lead in the 56th minute and ended the contest in the 104th minute.

He was named the tournament most valuable player and was joined on the All-Tournament team by junior defenders Spencer Tayloe and Jacob VanCompernolle and freshman goalkeeper Sean Melvin.

With two goals, Bonner raised his career total to eight in 20 career games played. He also notched his second career game-winner.

For Bonner, it was his first CAA Player-of-the-Week award and the first for UNCW since 2011, when Shawn Guderian earned the conference accolade. Bonner was a CAA Rookie-of-the-Week selection last season.

UNCW was one of three CAA schools to open with 2-0 marks over the weekend with Delaware and James Madison also going 2-0.

The Seahawks opened their home schedule this weekend when they host Elon, Mercer and Presbyterian in the Hilton Garden Inn Classic. UNCW plays Presbyterian on Sept. 6 at 7:30 p.m. and closes out the weekend with Mercer on Sept. 8. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m.
