WILMINGTON, North CarolinaColin Bonner scored twice and UNCW exploded for four second half goals as the Seahawks ran past visiting Longwood, 6-1, in a men’s soccer exhibition on Saturday at Legion Stadium.

UNCW built a 2-0 halftime lead on Bonner’s two strikes before putting the game away in the second half.

Joining Bonner in the scoring parade were Mateo Cardona, Freddy Nzekele, Jack Ward and Jamie Dell. Zach Corcoran notched Longwood’s lone goal of the maych.

Bonner’s first goal came in the 21st minute as he slipped past a LU defender on the right side and broke in one-on-one with keeper Paul Hegedus. He sent his shot inside the far left post for the early lead.

Eight minutes prior to the intermission Bonner would collect his second goal of the game. Cardona found an open Bonner at the top of the penalty area where Bonner would send a left-footed strike past Hegedus and off the crossbar in the 38th minute.

UNCW extended the lead to 3-0 in the 50th minute when Cardona’s free kick was mishandled by Hegedus for the goal.

Corcoran narrowed the deficit to 3-1 in the 75th minute when his free kick from 25 yards out skipped past UNCW keeper Sean Melvin.

Nzekele (79), Ward (85) and Jamie Dell (90) closed out the scoring for the Seahawks.

UNCW outshot the Lancers, 16-5, including a 7-1 edge in the opening half.

UNCW visits NC State for an exhibition game on Aug. 24. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
