- Batts tossed his sixth complete game of the season but came up on the wrong end of a pitcher’s duel as Hofstra plated an unearned run for a 1-0 win in the series opener. Batts tied his career-high with 11 strikeouts and allowed just five hits. He finished the season as the league’s strikeout leader with 106 and ranking sixth on UNCW’s all-time list.

Seahawks Earn First Round Bye For CAA Tournament: By virtue of capturing the regular season title, the Seahawks will be the top seed at this week’s CAA Championship tournament, host by James Madison in Harrisonburg, Va. It is the second consecutive season, and eighth overall, the Seahawks will be the top seed in the six-team field.

Record Watch: Kelly Secrest holds UNCW’s saves record by a lefthander with seven and is tied for 5th on the single season list, with his next save, he’ll move into a three-way tie for fourth on the career list … At 9-3, Mat Batts is second to Bryan Mazur (10-4, 1999) in wins by a southpaw in a season at UNCW … Batts moved into sixth on UNCW’s single season strikeout list … Michael Bass has 74 career stolen bases and is tied with former Seahawk All-America John Raynor, who swiped 74 bags during this career with UNCW (2003-06) … Terence Connelly is tied for third on the single season hit by pitch list with 16 … Jack Lane is tied for 10th on the season appearances list with 29 this season … Tyler Molinaro moved into the top-10 with 25 homers, ranking 10th.

Streaks: Luis Renvill is the only Seahawk with a hitting streak of at least three games … Ryan LaGrange leads the Seahawks with a seven-game on base streak … Mat Batts has struck out seven or more batters in nine consecutive starts with a high of 11 against Davidson (Apr. 5) and at Hofstra (May 17).

After Further Research: UNCW skipper Mark Scalf is the all-time winningest coach in conference play with a 298-194-1 mark.

Notes: With the regular season complete, UNCW’s win over then top-ranked North Carolina was the Tar Heels’ lone non-conference loss of the season … Freshman shortstop Terence Connelly is the only Seahawk to start all 56 games this season … The Seahawks had their bats going in the regular season finale with four home runs coming off the bats of Ryan LaGrange, twice by Tyler Molinaro and Luke Dunlap’s eventual game-winner in the 10th … UNCW and Hofstra combined to use 16 pitchers in the season finale as the Pride needed a win to qualify for the league championship tournament … The Seahawks remain the only program in the history of the conference to play in all 28 editions of the tournament … Senior reliever Justin Livengood continued his solid season with five shutout innings of relief last week and allowing just one hit … Blaze Tart also threw well in relief, allowing just four hits in four and 1/3 innings while striking out four, he was the winning pitcher in the Hofstra series finale.

CAA Championship Tournament: The Seahawks won the 2012 championship in Harrisonburg, going 3-1 and edging Delaware in the finale game by a score of 10-8 … The tournament will move to Wilmington in 2014 and then head to conference newcomer College of Charleston in 2015 … The Seahawks have won the post season classic on three occasions (2004, 2006 and 2012) and played in the championship game in 2009 and 2010.
