WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior Aisha Figueroa went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead UNCG to a 9-0 defeat of UNCW in collegiate softball action Tuesday at Boseman Field.

The Spartans improved to 30-11 overall with the victory while the Seahawks moved to 13-25 on the season. UNCW returns to action Saturday as it opens a three-game CAA against Towson with a Noon doubleheader at Boseman Field.

Figueroa’s perfect day at the plate paced a UNCG lineup that pounded out 14 hits in the contest as sophomore Tatiana Alcala went 3-for-4 and junior Kaatelyn Bedwell was 2-for-3. Freshman Lindsay Thomas was 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Sophomore Erica Navarette picked up the win for the Spartans to move her record to 6-4 on the season. She allowed two hits in four innings in the circle. Junior Raeanne Hanks and freshman Kelly Lupton combined to pitch the final two innings and allowed just one runner to reach base.

Junior Morgan McCann and freshman Erin Brown tallied the two base hits for the Seahawks. Sophomore Jordyn Schmidt took the loss for the Seahawks to move to 4-11 on the season. Schmidt surrendered three runs on four hits and one walk in two innings of work.

UNCG took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Dominque Madruga before notching three runs on three hits in the top of the third to make it a 4-0 contest.

A sacrifice fly by freshman Danielle Vega in the fourth expanded the Spartans cushion to 5-0. UNCG closed out the scoring in the sixth by tallying four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run by Thomas, to make it a 9-0 game.
