WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW raced past Charleston Southern, 10-3, for its second midweek win of the week after tripping East Carolina by an identical score on Tuesday. The Seahawks took advantage of six Charleston Southern errors while pounding out 10 hits against a total of eight CSU pitchers. Freshman Evan Phillips earned the win after allowing one run over three innings of relief. The Seahawks stand at 14-7 overall on the season and 1-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Georgia State carries a 15-7 record and an impressive 5-1 in the CAA after sweeping Old Dominion last weekend in Atlanta. The Panthers split a pair of midweek games with nationally-ranked Mercer, falling 9-4 at home to the Bears, but earning a split with a 13-7 victory in Macon on Wednesday. GSU marks the Seahawks second highly-ranked offensive team its faced in as many weekends following last weekend’s trek to James Madison. The Panthers are hitting a robust .349, wth Chad Prain strolling along with a .500 (43-86) average through 22 games. Ten Panthers own batting averages above .300 and GSU is averaging 9.5 runs per game. UNCW is led by Michael Bass and his .436 batting average along with 12 stolen bases to key the top of the order. Bass is tied with Tyler Molinaro with four home runs while Drew Farber has a team-high 18 runs batted in. While the offense is getting in gear, it’s been the pitchers that have helped carry the team early. Mat Batts, Christian MacDonald and Jordan Ramsey have combined for a 6-3 record in 15 starts.
