|Perkins Wins Three Events, Sets Mark|
WILMINGTON, North Carolina - Coastal Carolina captured the 4x400, the final event of the meet, to edge UNCW, 103.5-102.5, in the eighth annual Battle of the Beaches Sunday at the Greene Track & Field Complex.
The Seahawk men combined to win nine events in the dual match up with its rival to the south.
"We held an early lead, but weren't able to hold off Coastal," said UNCW Head Coach Jim Sprecher. "We had an opportunity in the final event, but couldn't take advantage of it."
Ryan O'Conner claimed first in the 1500 meters in a time of 4:06.72.
UNCW also captured the 4x100 and 4x800 Relays.
UNCW's Clarissa Perkins opened her outdoor season in an impressive fashion, winning the Hammer, Shot Put and Discus in the women's meet. Her distance of 45-3 3/4 in the Shot Put was a new UNCW standard.
"Clarissa had a tough week dealing with some injuries, but she responded well and competed well in each event."
The meet, which wasn't scored, saw UNCW athletes win 16 individual events and a pair of relays.
Joining Perkins with multiple wins was Meena Reid, winning the 100 meters and the 200 meters. She also ran on a pair of winning relays.
