UNCW Sweeps Wingate In Swimming Action

WINGATE, North Carolina - UNCW's men's and women's teams combined to win 17 events as the Seahawks swept host Wingate by scores of 152-123 and 167-113, respectively, on Saturday.
Senior Rachel Wilson gave the Seahawks wins in the women's 500, a pool record, and 1,000 Freestyles while fellow senior Carly Tanner captured both the 100 Breaststroke and 100 Free.Tanner set a pool record in the 100 Breast.
Tanner also keyed the Seahawks relays, combining with sophomore Hannah Stephenson, Rachel Sears and Nicole Miller to take first in both the 400 Medley and 400 Free relays. The 400 Medley was a pool record.
Stephenson and Miller also added individual wins in the 100 Backstroke and 50 Free, respectively.
Freshman Jenson Engen added a win and a pool record in the 200 Backstroke.
On the men's side, the Seahawks dominated the relays, as the squad of sophomores Valtteri Halonen, CJ Fiala and Nick Low and senior Michael Williams opened the meet with a win in the 400 Medley Relay. In the meet finale, Alex LaBonge replaced Halonen on the winning 400 Free Relay. Both winning efforts were pool records.
Halonen won the 100 Backstroke and set a pool record while Fiala captured the 50 Free and Lowe the 100 Fly.
Michael Baric added a win for the Seahawks in the 200 IM.
In diving, Nate Sherron finished first in the men's 1-meter.
The Seahawks host NC State on Jan. 26 at 11 a.m.
