WILMINGTON, North Carolina - In a game where chances were abundant but goals were few, UNCW overcame an early deficit to edge Colonial Athletic Association opponent Georgia State, 2-1, Wednesday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

The Seahawks, 6-8-1 overall and 3-4-0 in the CAA, scored twice in a 92-second span midway through the second half to remain unbeaten against the Panthers at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.

Georgia State, 4-9-0 and 1-5-0, opened the scoring in the 22nd minute following an errant pass by the Seahawks in their third of the field.  Panthers forward Alex Vivanco took the interception and finished unassisted to put his side up 1-0 early at 21:12.

The Seahawks, who owned a 13-7 advantage in shots, nearly leveled the score 12 minutes later when senior forward Thomas Driver put a diving header on goal after a ball was deflected to him the box.  Panthers keeper CJ Cochran then made one of his three saves of the first half to keep the score 1-0 going into the intermission.

The Seahawks' fortune changed in the 59^th minute, however. Freshman forward Colin Bonner's deflected attempt squeaked past Cochran to even the score at 1-1.  Sophomore midfielder Jamie Dell provided the assist that led to Bonner's fourth goal of the year at 58:46.

UNCW sophomore defender Jacob VanCompernolle then completed the scoring with his third goal of the year at the 60:18 mark after cleaning up a loose ball in the box.

The goal came after sophomore forward Jamie Dell played a free kick into the box and freshman forward Nathaniel Goodwin put a strike on target, only to be pushed away by Cochran and finding VanCompernolle for the finish. Dell was credited with assists on both Seahawk goals.

The UNCW defense dug in to hold onto its slim lead in the final 29 minutes to snap a three-game losing streak in CAA play.

With just three regular season games remaining, Coach Aidan Heaney's team continues its pursuit of a CAA playoff spot Saturday when the Seahawks travel to second place Northeastern for a 6 p.m. kick off.
