Seahawks Go 13-4 At WFU Fall Tennis

Release: 10/12/2012 WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina - The UNCW men's tennis team went a combined 13-4 on the opening day of the Wake Forest Fall Tennis Invitational Friday at the WFU Tennis Complex. The Seahawks fashioned a 7-2 record in singles and a 6-2 mark in doubles play in the 15-team bracketed event. Junior Rafael Aita, ranked 55th nationally, won his opening match in A1 Singles by scooting past N.C. State's Simon Norenius, 7-6 (6), 6-1. Chris Cooprider and Kaue Pereira split a pair of matches in A2 Singles. Duke's Josh Levine downed Cooprider, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, and Pereira topped Liberty's Shea Thomas, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5. Three Seahawks played in the B Singles draw and all three won. Sam Williams ousted Liberty's Egon Samali, 6-3, 7-6 (5), Pedro Mol outlasted Liberty's Dillon Segur, 5-7, 6-3, 6-2, and Kosta Blank blasted Furman's Joel Cook, 6-1, 6-1. In C Singles, Michael Reilly stopped Richmond's Sebastien Fauchet, 6-4, 6-2, while Zach Hublitz lost to Davidson's Connor Evins, 7-6 92), 1-6, 6-2. In D2 Singles, Matt Kealy won easily over Elon's Chris Geaslen, 6-2, 6-3. The Seahawks had the most doubles success in B Doubles, with two teams reaching the semifinals. Mol and Hublitz won two matches and Reilly teamed up with Pereira on the other side of the draw to reach the semis as well. |
