WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW women's tennis standout Christina Lee has been named First-Team All-District on the Capital One Academic All-America women's at-large squad.

Lee was selected to the All-District 3 Team, which encompasses North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Her name will be placed on the Capital One Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Lee, from Charlotte, N.C., helped the Seahawks finish with a 15-7 record and advance to the semifinals of the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Tennis Championships. She closed out her career with 62 singles victories and 46 doubles wins, and was a three-time All-CAA performer, including a First-Team pick in 2011 and 2012.

"Christina has been the true definition of a student-athlete in every sense of the word," said Jenny Garrity, UNCW's 12-year head coach. "She took just as much pride in her academic accomplishments as her athletic ones, while becoming an amazing leader on and off the court to her teammates, classmates and the student body.

"In order to be a successful student-athlete, you must possess more than just athletic skill and intelligence in the classroom. You must also successfully manage your time, course curriculum and academic and athletic schedules. Achieving a balance is one of the biggest challenges a student-athlete faces and Christina not only rose to that challenge every year, but mastered it.

"Christina has also been an incredible leader for our program and raised the bar very high for future teams coming along. I'm excited for her to be recognized in this way, which celebrates her success on the court and in the classroom. No one is more deserving than Christina for this honor."

Lee, who graduated May 12 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and a minor in Spanish, received the Chancellor's Cup Award as the school's top female academic performer at last month's athletic awards banquet after compiling an outstanding 3.931 grade point average.

Capital One Academic All-America District 3 team: Sarah Borchelt (Virginia), Virginia Mayer (Elon), Jessica Lyden (Duke), Becca Ward (Duke), Kelsey Floyd (Tennessee), Christina Lee (UNCW), Maria Juliana Loza (Tennessee-Chattanooga), Johanie Van Zyl (Tennessee-Martin), Josie Owen (Virginia), Logan Kline (Virginia Tech), Shinann Featherston (UNC Chapel Hill).
