CONWAY, South Carolina - On a day set aside for love and civility, the UNCW women's tennis team showed no display of affection by dominating Coastal Carolina, 7-0, in a non-conference match Thursday.

The Seahawks raised their record to 2-1 on the young season under new coach Evan Clark. The Chanticleers now stand 1-2.

"I'm really pleased with the way our team performed today across the board," said Clark. "They have worked hard to make improvements and adjustments since opening weekend and it's exciting to see the positive progress. We will get some rest and a little work in tomorrow before taking on a very good Campbell team on Saturday."

UNCW showed its depth up and down the lineup in the convincing win over their regional rival, taking the early doubles point and sweeping all six singles matches.

Kelly Cameron and Miller Hales set the tone early with an 8-0 blitzing of Alicia Robinson and Shelby Bates at the No. 2 doubles position and Angie Sekely and Olga Blank clinched the point by clipping Mikaela Davies and Kourtney Kowal, 8-2.

In singles, the bottom of the lineup breezed as Christine Kharkevich, Cameron and Blank won matches in succession to close out the match. The Seahawks are now 13-5 in singles matches this spring.

Kharkevich, a freshman from Houston, Texas, bageled Dominique De Wit, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 and Cameron followed with an easy 6-0, 6-2 decision over Davies at No. 5. Blank then topped Kowal, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 4 singles to clinch the match.

Sekely, the Colonial Athletic Association's Player-of-the-Week, remained unbeaten through three matches when she outlasted Libby Scott, 6-2, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (10-6), at the top of the lineup. In other matches, Alyssa Ritchie cruised past Bates, 7-5, 6-0, at No. 2 singles and Christina Riley topped Robinson, 6-2, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (10-7), at No. 3.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. match against visiting Campbell at the UNCW courts. The Chanticleers entertain Coker and North Carolina A&T in back-to-back matches on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
