WILMINGTON, North Carolina - UNCW Head Women's Golf Coach Cindy Ho has announced the hiring of former East Carolina standout Abby Bools as a volunteer assistant coach with the Seahawks.
"I am excited to have Abby join my staff," said Ho. "Abby was the true definition of a student-athlete during her collegiate career at ECU, excelling both on the course and in the classroom. She knows what it takes to be successful at this level. Her experience and knowledge of the game will be a valuable asset to our program."
A native of Hickory, N.C., Bools was a three-time First-Team All-Conference USA honoree and a 2010 NGCA East All-Region Team member at ECU. She participated in 45 events during her four-year career (2006-10) and compiled a 75.40 stroke average, good for third place on the all-time list at ECU. A nine-time C-USA Golfer-of-the-Week honoree, Bools claimed individual medalist honors twice during her career, winning the Myrtle Beach Classic and Qdoba Invitational during the 2007-08 season.
Bools posted a 73.83 stroke average as a senior in 2010, still the lowest single-season mark in school history. She was named C-USA Co-Player-of-the-Year in both 2008 and 2010, becoming just the third player in league history to earn the award on more than one occasion.
In the classroom, Bools was recognized as the C-USA Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year in 2010. A four-time National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team selection, Bools graduated Suma Cum Laude from ECU with a Bachelor's Degree in history and a minor in communications in 2010.
Following graduation, Bools joined the Symetra Tour, the official development tour of the LPGA. An active tour member, Bools has competed in more than 20 events and posted her best finish with a top-25 showing in the Daytona Beach Invitational in 2011.
