FARMINGDALE, N.Y. ? UNC Wilmington rising sophomore Josh Brock opened his appearance at the 109th U.S. Open carding an 83 in the opening round at Bethpage State Park Black course on Friday.
Brock had played two holes on Thursday before torrential rains forced the suspension of play and pushing the Open back a day.
On Friday and already three shots over par through two holes, Brock bogeyed his first hole before shooting par on seven of the next eight holes. A triple-bogey on the 15th hole dropped him back to seven over.
Brock bogeyed four of the next five holes on the front nine starting with the third hole. He double bogeyed the sixth hole.
At 13-over, Brock finished on a high note recording back-to-back par on the final two holes of the front nine.
Brock will tee off his second round at 12:12 p.m. on Saturday.
