DURHAM, N.C. ? UNC Wilmington rising junior Derek Wallace finished tied for second and rising freshman Taylor Zimmerman finished tied for 20th overall at the 49th North Carolina Amateur Championship on Sunday at Old Chatham Golf Club.
Wallace finished three strokes off the pace behind NC State's Mark McMillen. Wallace fashioned a four-day total of 70-75-66-70?281, seven strokes under par. His lowest round was a 66 on day three, which was the lowest for the round and tied for the tournament low round.
Zimmerman finished one-over for the tournament after finishing one-over in the final round. Zimmerman entered the final round coming off his low round for the tournament after carding a four-run 68 in round three.
Rising sophomore Ryan Sullivan rounded out the UNCW entrants in the championship and finished tied for 36th. Sullivan entered the final round at even-par through three rounds, but struggled on Sunday and finished seven-over.
Rising sophomore Josh Brock withdrew from the tournament after qualifying for the US Open at Bethpage Black earlier this week with a second-place finish at the Rockville qualifier in Maryland.
