WILMINGTON, N.C. ? After dominating the Florida State League, former UNC Wilmington standout and current New York Mets minor leaguer Bradley Holt was promoted to Binghamton of the Double-A Eastern League on Wednesday.
Holt fashioned a 4-1 mark for St. Lucie, the Mets' affiliate in the High-A Florida State League. In his last start, he struck out six in six innings of three-hit, shutout baseball against Clearwater.
In eight starts, he's struck out 50 batters in 41 1/3 innings and has limited opponents to a .219 batting average.
Holt will make his first start for the Binghamton Mets on Friday when they open a home stand with a 7:05 p.m. start against the Connecticut Defenders.
Holt was a first round supplemental pick, 33rd overall, by New York in the 2008 Major League Baseball draft. He was honored with the Sterling Award which is given to the top player on each team in the Mets' minor league system.
