Redmond Leaving Seahawk Coaching Staff

WILMINGTON, N.C. ? Benny Moss' longest running assistant coach, Joe Redmond, is leaving the UNC Wilmington men's basketball staff after three seasons to pursue other interests.

Redmond, 36, joined the UNCW program shortly after Moss was hired as the head coach in the spring of 2006. Redmond was involved in all aspects of the Seahawk program, including practices, recruiting and scouting.

“I thank Joe for all of his contributions over the last three years,” said Moss. “He has been a close friend for many years, and we wish him the best in the next phase of his career.”

Redmond served as head coach for three seasons at NCAA Division II Henderson State prior to moving to Wilmington. The Kansas native spent three years as the top assistant for the Reddies before taking over the helm of the program in 2003-04 and coaching Henderson State to a 51-34 record and a pair of Gulf South Conference Tournament appearances.

Moss will begin his search for Redmond's replacement immediately.
