Moss Adds Two More Recruits To Seahawk Flock

WILMINGTON, N.C. ? UNC Wilmington men's basketball coach Benny Moss has announced the addition of junior college standouts Ahmad Grant and Trevor Deloach to his squad for the 2009-10 campaign.

The pair gives the Seahawks seven newcomers for the fall, including one redshirt, two freshmen and four transfers.

“We're very excited about Ahmad and Trevor,” said Moss, who will begin his fourth season with the Seahawks. “They are great fits for our program, both on and off the floor. They're very talented players and fine individuals as well. We're very pleased because they are committed to helping our team accomplish its goals.”

Grant joins UNCW's program following two seasons at Olney Central Junior College in Peoria, Ill. The 6-3, 175-pound guard scored 1,084 points in two seasons for Coach Mike Burris. He averaged 15.4 points to lead the Blue Knights to a 20-11 record last year.

“Ahmad can really score,” said Moss. “He's a very good 3-point shooter who can also create off the bounce. His length and athleticism allow him to be a very good defender as well.”

Grant, who features a 6-foot-10 inch wingspan, was a preseason Second-Team NJCAA All-American and a preseason Top 50 JUCO selection.

Deloach, meanwhile, played one year at Chipola (Fla.) Junior College after transferring from the University of South Carolina. The Saluda, S.C., native redshirted one year at USC before moving on to Chipola, where he appeared in 22 games for the Indians and averaged 3.9 ppg. Deloach was named South Carolina's 2A Player-of-the-Year in 2005-06 after collecting 27.0 ppg as a senior at Saluda High School.

Deloach signed out of high school with former Gamecock skipper Dave Odom, but wound up shipping out to Chipola, where he shot 31 percent behind the arc. He joins another Palmetto State product, Florence's Dominique Lacy, on the Seahawk roster.

“Trevor is a very good scorer who has great size for his position,” said Moss. “He's a young man that finds a way to put the ball in the basket.”

Grant and Deloach join redshirt freshman Will O'Huaregbe, true freshmen Keith Rendleman and Matt Wilson, East Carolina transfer John Fields and Brunswick Community College transfer Jeremy Basnight on the roster for 2009-10.
