WILMINGTON, N.C. ? UNC Wilmington's scheduled three-game baseball series with Colonial Athletic Association rival Delaware this weekend has been cancelled.
Delaware school officials will not allow the Blue Hens to travel to Wilmington because of several reported cases of influenza that meet the federal government's definition for probable cases of swine flu on the Newark campus. Students have been treated at UD Student Health Services, which is working closely with the Delaware Division of Public Health.
“We're obviously disappointed that we won't be able to play the series, but certainly understand there is a bigger issue at hand,” said UNCW veteran coach Mark Scalf. “We wish everyone affected a speedy recovery.”
The Seahawks, 24-17 overall and 8-7 in the CAA, next entertains N.C. State on Wednesday (May 6) at 7 p.m.
