Former Seahawk Finishes 65th In Boston Marathon

     WILMINGTON, N.C. ? Former UNC Wilmington cross country and track standout Mary Gill finished 65th out of nearly 25,000 competitors in the 113th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday.

 

      The Carrboro, N.C., resident clocked a time of 2:59.30 over the 26-mile course for a strong finish in the oldest continuous marathon in the world.

 

      Gill, 30, ran for the Seahawks from 1998-2002 and captured the Seahawk Invitational title in 2001. She was an All-CAA performer in the 10,000 meters. Gill graduated from J.F. Webb High School in Oxford, N.C.

 

      Mary Bertram of Salisbury was the top North Carolina runner with a time of 2:58.19, good enough for 53rd overall.
