WILMINGTON, N.C. ? Former UNC Wilmington cross country and track standout Mary Gill finished 65^th out of nearly 25,000 competitors in the 113^th running of the Boston Marathon on Monday.

      The Carrboro, N.C., resident clocked a time of 2:59.30 over the 26-mile course for a strong finish in the oldest continuous marathon in the world.

      Gill, 30, ran for the Seahawks from 1998-2002 and captured the Seahawk Invitational title in 2001. She was an All-CAA performer in the 10,000 meters. Gill graduated from J.F. Webb High School in Oxford, N.C.

      Mary Bertram of Salisbury was the top North Carolina runner with a time of 2:58.19, good enough for 53^rd overall.
