UNCW Men Maintain Lead As CAA Records Continue To Fall

FAIRFAX, Va. ? Two more Colonial Athletic Association meet records were broken and juniors Robert Anderson and Caitlin Kirsteier qualified for the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships with “B' list times as UNC Wilmington maintained its lead in the men's championship. The women, meanwhile, continued their climb in the standings and are in fourth.

“We're very excited about all our performances and the 400 Medley Relay teams,” said Head Coach Dave Allen. “The men were able to add to their lead and the women showed their tenacity by continuing to climb the standings. We have a big day ahead of us and we're looking to finish in style.”

The Seahawks hold a 69-point lead over second-place Old Dominion, while the women trail third-place William & Mary by 47.5 points.

Kirsteier set a school and championship record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 53.28 seconds.

Also setting a new school and conference meet record was the men's 400 Medley Relay, which posted a time of 3:15.60. The relay of junior Andrew Rogers, Anderson, sophomore Tucker Waldron and sophomore Seth Liston broke the previous mark of 3:18.89 set by American in 2001.

Rogers also set a new UNCW record when he won the 100 Backstroke with a time of 49.17, equaling his time from the preliminaries.

A total of seven school records were broken in session five for the Seahawks.

Junior Laura Chinni continued her spectacular championship effort, breaking the program-record in the 400 IM with a time of 4:20.51. Freshman Mattie Riley also set a new UNCW standard when she clocked in at 56.42 in the 100 Backstroke.
