WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Former UNCW standouts Mat Batts and Kelly Secrest were honored as second-team ABCA All-East Region all-stars in a vote by the region’s head coaches.

Batts, who was drafted by Minnesota in the 17th round of the Major League Baseball draft, went 6-3 and led the Seahawks with a 2.69 ERA. The lefthander from Pfafftown, N.C., also led the Colonial Athletic Association in strikeouts in three consecutive seasons.

Batts was also named first-team All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) on Monday.

Secrest, meanwhile, was drafted by the New York Mets in the 10th round of the draft and is pitching for the Brooklyn Cyclones. Secrest recorded eight saves and earned five wins coming out of the bullpen for UNCW. He also became the program and conference record holder with 114 career appearances.
