|Walk-off Warriors! UNCW Wins 11-10|
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman Teddy Cillis’ two-out single in the bottom of the 10th lifted UNCW to a 11-10 win over James Madison in the second game of the Colonial Athletic Association baseball tournament on Wednesday at Brooks Field.
The Seahawks improved to 29-25 with the walk-off win while the Dukes dropped to 17-35. UNCW advanced to game five of the tournament on Friday at 3:30 p.m. against the College of Charleston. JMU faces Northeastern in an elimination game Wednesday evening.
In the Seahawk tenth, JMU reliever Mark Gunst (2-8) struck out the first two hitters before Ryan LaGrange singled to begin the rally. A wild pitch moved him to second and Cillis followed with a single, his third hit of the game, to right center to plate LaGrange.
UNCW senior reliever William Prince (2-0) earned the win, retiring all four batters he faced out of the bullpen.
Both teams combined for 30 hits on the game, each with 15. Leading the Seahawk lineup was senior Drew Farber, who finished with a season-high four hits while freshman Casey Golden added three and LaGrange and Andy Austin, each with two hits. Farber and LaGrange both scored three runs.
JMU senior Ty MacFarland collected four hits and knocked in three runs. Kevin Husum added three hits while Kyle Weston was 2-for-2 and scored three runs.
Inside the box score: JMU had eight hits with two out and knocked in eight runs with two out … Both teams landed their leadoff hitter on base safely in five innings … JMU plated seven runs in the sixth, but UNCW outscored the Dukes, 7-2, over their final four and one-half innings.
Notes: UNCW improved to 41-56 all-time against the Dukes … The Seahawks are 5-8 against JMU in the CAA tournament … Today was Farber’s first four-hit game of the season and his seventh multi-hit game … Casey Golden extended his current hitting streak to six games while extending his on base streak to six games, also … Ryan LaGrange has reached safely in seven straight games … UNCW used 18 players on its 27-man roster.
