NEWARK, Delaware – Ryan Hartley’s two-out single in the bottom of the eighth scored Zach Lopes with  the go-ahead run as Delaware topped UNCW, 4-3, to win a vital Colonial Athletic Association series on Sunday at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Blue Hens evened their record at 20-20 overall and 7-7 in the league. The Seahawks returned to below .500 with the loss and stand at 21-22 and 6-7.

Luke Alicknavith (2-2) earned the win in relief for the Blue Hens.

Reliever Nick Monroe (1-4) was tagged with the loss.

Hartley finished with two hits, including a RBI double. Adding two hits were EJ Stoltzfus, Norm Donnkin and Lopes.

Casey Golden and Andy Austin had two hits apiece for the Seahawks. Austin knocked in two runs with one coming on a double.

Up next: The Seahawks have no midweek games and return action on May 2 with a 6 p.m. start against conference –leading College of Charleston.

How it happened: Lopes opened the eighth inning with a single and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Jake Clark. Kelly Secrest came on for Monroe with one out and got the second out on a ground ball. Hartley followed with a single to center that scored Lopes.

Inside the box score: Delaware landed its leadoff hitter on base in five innings and scored that runner in four innings … UNCW was 1-for-9 leading off innings and compounded that by going 1-for-10 with two out … UD made the most of three, two-out hits, scoring two runs.

Notes: UNCW received a strong start from Jordan Ramsey, allowing one run on six hits over four innings and recording 10 ground ball outs … Robbie Thorburn made his first career start at second base … Delaware held a rededication ceremony for Bob Hannah Stadium prior to the game.
