|Adams Honored By CAA Again|
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – After posting her first collegiate victory over the weekend, UNCW senior Lori Beth Adams continued to add to her trophy case on Wednesday as she was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Co-Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week.
Sharing the award with James Madison’s Shabril Brewer, Adams was recognized by the league for the second time this season as she was also honored on March 7.
“I am very excited for Lori Beth,” said UNCW Head Coach Cindy Ho. “She played extremely well and was consistent for all three days. With no live scoring and not being in the final wave with the leaders, she did a great job playing her own game, making good decisions on a tough scoring day with the wind and cold and managed to keep really calm and patient throughout the round.
“Lori Beth got the monkey off her back with her first career collegiate win and I know that is a big relief for her. She has worked very hard for the last two years on her game and had put a lot of pressure on herself to win with so many close finishes. I am just ecstatic that she could do it in her final regular season college event. This will give her a tremendous amount of confidence heading into the conference championship next week.”
A native of Burlington, N.C., Adams recorded the first individual win of her collegiate career with a four-shot victory at the UNCW Seahawk Classic last weekend at the River Landing Golf Course in Wallace. Adams posted a one-over-par total of 217 (74-71-72) during the 54-hole tournament as she shot her fifth and sixth rounds of par or better this season during the event. The win also represented her first top-5 finish of the season and the eighth of her standout career.
UNCW returns to action April 18-20 in the 2014 CAA Women’s Golf Championships at the St. James Plantation in nearby Southport.
