WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW head men’s soccer coach Aidan Heaney has announced the addition of Brayden Smith (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) to his program for the 2014-15 season, bringing his incoming class to four.

“We are pleased Brayden will be joining our Seahawk soccer family this fall,” said Heaney. “He is proving himself as a reliable defender each week on his Carolina Rapids Academy side and is a mainstay on his team. He has good positional sense, is calm under pressure and is comfortable playing out of the back. I think he is a good fit for us, and will add competition at the center back position, and his best soccer is still ahead of him.”

Smith plays for U18 Carolina Rapids USSDA team and has helped the program to a 16-3-1 record overall and an impressive 3-0-0 mark at the USSDA Winter Showcase in Sarasota, Fla., in January. His team sits at the top of the USSDA Southeast Division.

Prior to joining the Rapids in the USSDA, Smith played for NC Fusion while also participating with the North Carolina ODP team and in the Region III pool.

At West Forsyth, he was a two-year starter and helped the Titans to Central Piedmont Conference titles in 2009-10 and 2010-11. He also earned All-CPC and All-Region honors before moving to the Academy full-time.

The Seahawks their spring schedule on Mar. 18 with a 5 p.m. start at WakeMed Park against the Carolina RailHawks.
