JUMP BALL: UNCW will try to bounce back from a disappointing loss when Towson visits Trask Coliseum tonight in the second game of the regular season series. The Seahawks had their losing streak extended to 14 games over the weekend in a 61-52 loss at Hofstra.
RIGOROUS STRETCH: The Seahawks are playing the second leg of three games in five days. It’s also a stretch of eight games in 17 days and 10 games in 26 days for UNCW.
THE SERIES: The Seahawks and Tigers are meeting for the 30th time. UNCW leads the all-time series, 16-13, but Towson has won six the last 10 games. Since Towson joined the CAA 11 years ago, UNCW has fashioned a 13-9 advantage over the Tigers.
ABOUT THE TIGERS: Towson enters tonight’s game riding a four-game winning streak after outlasting the College of Charleston in overtime last Saturday, 68-61. The Tigers are 3-6 on the road and dropped an 83-76 verdict at Delaware on Jan. 26 in their last road tilt.
LAST MATCHUP: In the last game between the two teams on Jan. 11 at SECU Arena, reigning CAA Player-of-the-Year Jerrelle Benimon racked up his 10th double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds as Towson held off UNCW, 60-53. The Tigers only led, 26-24, at intermission and overcame 34 percent shooting to win their third straight over the Seahawks. Senior guard Chris Dixon paced three players in double figures for UNCW with a season-high 17 points in 35 minutes.
LAST MATCHUP AT TRASK COLISEUM: In the last game between the two teams in Wilmington, Jerelle Benimon led four players in double figures with 20 points and added 12 rebounds to power the Tigers past UNCW, 81-68, on Feb. 4, 2013, to complete a sweep of the regular season series with the Seahawks.
BUZZ VS. DREXEL: Buzz Peterson is facing Towson for the seventh time tonight and has dropped four straight to the Tigers.
SEAHAWKS VS. MARYLAND FOES: Towson is one of five opponnets from the state of Maryland the Seahawks have faced through the years. UNCW has carved out a 27-23 record against Maryland teams.
CEDRICK IN THE CAA: Junior forward Cedrick Williams has put together a solid season. The big man ranks 10th in scoring (13.4), eighth in rebounding (7.0), fifth in field goal percentage (.515), third in free throw percentage (.788), T-11th in steals (0.9) and T-2nd in blocks (1.6).
SHOOTERS BEWARE: Getting off shots may be difficult tonight since the contest features the top two teams in the CAA in blocked shots. Towson ranks first with 5.5 blocks per game, while UNCW is tied for second at 4.1 bpg.
