JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Hannah Stephenson and Jenson Engen opened 2014 with tremendous efforts as UNCW topped host North Florida, 181-119, in swimming and diving action on Tuesday at the UNF Aquatic Center.

Stephenson helped the Seahawks by taking the 100 and 200 Backstroke events with times of 59.62 second and 2:10.10, respectively. She also swam on the winning 200 Medley and 400 Free Style relays.

Engen, meanwhile, also got out of the gates quickly in 2014 with wins in the 100 (1:04.73) and 200 (2:24.28) Breaststroke events. Engen also swam the second leg of the 200 Medley Relay.

Cat Gargula added a win in the 100 Fly with a time of 59.66 and she too swam on the 200 Medley relay that set the tone for the afternoon with a win.

Rounding out UNCW’s individual event winners were Rachel Sears (50 Free) and Sara Smith (200 Fly).

Chelsea Tomko swam on both winning relays while Heather Shaver anchored the 400 Free Relay.

The Seahawks also defeated NCAA Division II member Catawba, 228-56.

UNCW returns to action when it visits College of Charleston on Jan. 11.
