FAIRFAX, Virginia – Valtteri Halonen capped his tremendous showing at the Patriot Invitational with a win in the men’s 200 Backstroke on Saturday as UNCW finished second in the men’s meet and fifth in the women’s in the final meet of the fall semester.

Halonen used a time of 1:48.14 in winning his fourth event of the meet. He won the 50 Free on the first day and later added wins in the 100 Fly and 100 Back, setting a meet record in the 100 Back.

Christian Cremer’s second-place finish in the 1650 Freestyle. His time of 16:12.88 was a season-best for him and the Seahawks. His time moves him closer to breaking the top-50 in the nation after entering the meet 97th nationally.

UNCW’s 400 Free Relay of Halonen, Adam Salzman, Alex Labonge and Gabe Thran, finished second with a season-best time of 3:03.59, which could elevate the Seahawks into the nation’s top-50.

In the men’s 100 Free, Thran posted a third-place finish with a time of 45.74.

On the women’s side, Hannah Stephenson and Jenson Engen both finished fifth in the 200 Backstroke and Breaststroke, respectively.

The meet was the final event of the fall semester for the program. UNCW will open the spring semester when the women visit North Florida on Nov. 7, in Jacksonville, Fla.
