FAIRFAX, Va. – UNCW’s men’s 400 Medley relay of Valtteri Halonen, Michael Baric, Zach Sowers and Gabe Thran finished first and set a Patriot Invitational meet record to highlight the Seahawks results on Thursday at the McKay Natatorium.

The Seahawks are in second on the men’s side and sixth on the women’s. Host George Mason leads the Seahawk men by 9.5 points and also leads the women’s meet.

The 400 Medley Relay topped the field with a time of 3:21.78, besting the relay’s previous best time of 3:23.30, which ranked 39th nationally entering the meet.

The Seahawk men also opened the meet with a win in the 200 Freestyle Relay as Halonen, Alex LaBonge, Ned Tyler and Thran combined for a time of 1:22.90.

Halonen and Baric also posted impressive results in individual events with Halonen winning the 50 Free (20.80) and Baric taking fourth in the 200 IM (1:53.75). Thran added a second-place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 20.84.

On the women’s side, Rachel Sears clocked in with a time of 23.66 to finish second in the 50 Free.

The 400 Medley Relay of Hannah Stephenson, Jenson Engen, Cat Gargula and Sears posted a third-place time of 3:50.19.

Allen Crosby placed fourth in the 1-meter with a score of 260.60 points.

The meet continues on Friday with the preliminaries set for 10 a.m.
